Nail Narcissist

Style is always about dressing from H2T (Head-to-toe). From your earrings all the way down to your toe ring, every piece of your ensemble is important. This week I want to get in to nails – cars are extensions of men and well I guess you can say shoes, hand bags and nails are extensions of us women!

Most if not all designers this year wanted to keep things “short and sweet” literally! They’ve all kept their runway nail shape low and natural, whilst adding details such as coloured tips and even checked designs. But if you’re looking to go the ‘extra mile’ with some extra length on your own nails, than your shape of choice should be oval and/or almond. The almond nail allows you the length whilst still looking natural.

In terms of colour there is a lot of metallics in the mix for every nail narcissist – following the industrial trend that has been seen across various runways; silver being the stand out colour. For the minimalist go for a monochrome tip – experiment with graphic triangles using a mauve colour or perhaps a deep maroon as seen on the Cushnie et Ochs runway. As always, bright colours are ever present on the runway for summer – most specifically reds, oranges, blues and yellows.

And if a full metallic nail isn’t your style, simply add a few horizontal or vertical stripes giving your nails a graphic edge.

I know I KNOW, acrylic and gel nails are extremely difficult and expensive to keep up.  Luckily a number of companies in the last couple of years have come out with designer press-ons – so you can stay on trend whenever you feel the time is right! Press them on in the morning and take them off at night. OR … just DIY because this season’s designs are super simple and perfect for every nail narcissist.
