Tuesday Tune In – Runnin’ (Lose It All) by Naughty Boy

It’s official. I’m in love. I am completely lost and drowning in this song and all it’s variations. The original, the stripped down version AND the orchestra cover. I am in and staying in.

You know how you’re just up, for no real reason, just hanging around YouTube and Facebook not really trying to find anything new but you do anyway? Well this was it! I had never heard of Naughty Boy so when I saw the song Runnin’ (Lose It All) featuring Arrow Benjamin (amazing name btw) and Beyonce, I clicked it and BAM! I’m hooked. To the point that I got it on iTunes and it’s been blasting on repeat ever since.

“Runnin’, runnin’ runnin’/Ain’t runnin’ from myself no more” sorry..needed to get that out of my system.

Anyway it starts off pretty mellow so I figured it would be just another Bey-tastic power ballad singing with these two dudes but the beat kicks in and I promise you I haven’t stopped moving since. Bey’s vocals are on point as usual but keeps it kinda pop. Arrow, however, brings on the mellow aspect to it. He has, what I would describe it as, a Neo-Soul voice. Something I would put in my playlist along with Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Music Soulchild or even Mos Def and Talib Kwali if you feeling that.

Normally I don’t like listening to DJ’d music but I have my moments when I like a little Skrillex or David Guetta. Anywho, Naughty Boy got it though. He’s a DJ I can definitely listen to on a regular basis (once I get over my addiction to Runnin’ (Lose It All) first). I appreciate the uniqueness that he brings to the song with his mixture of tone and variations. It’s not all house-party-hard if you get what I’m saying. I’m not going to put on Runnin’ before I go out anywhere. Runnin’ is a track that I would play if I just want to chill at home or I’m going for a drive.

And don’t get me started on the video. Amazing! And kind of ethereal. Now I don’t know if it’s a new trend with artists not appearing in their own videos (see all of the Beibsters recent videos) but I think the fact that they eliminate Beyonce, Arrow and Naughty Boy adds to the quality of the video itself. We get a chance to focus on the music itself; the beats, the vocals, the lyrical content.  We don’t get disracted by whatever scantily clad outfit Bey might be in or Arrow’s hair (which is divine btw) or even how Naughty Boy feels his own music when he’s playing it. All there is is the two main people in a vast and beautiful ocean, runnin’.

All in all I give this a 10 out of 10. Maybe I’m being too generous but I won’t apolo-lie for loving this track.

Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think in the comments below. Deuces until next week fam.
